Proper break-in is crucial for optimal brake performance. The break-in procedure is designed to establish an even layer of friction material deposited on the rotors from the brake pads. It is essential that this initial layer of friction material is evenly distributed. The recommended break-in process involves completing five moderate to aggressive stops from 40 mph down to 10 mph in rapid succession, without allowing the brakes to cool. This is followed by five moderate stops from 35 mph to 5 mph, also in rapid succession. During this process, you may expect to smell some resin as the brakes get hot. After the initial break-in, continue driving the vehicle for approximately five minutes at moderate speed, allowing the brakes to cool to standard operating temperature. Once the break-in is complete, you may use the brakes normally.
